On-Page SEO Checklist for Every Blog Post
Great content still needs the fundamentals in place to rank. This on-page SEO checklist is the short list of things worth confirming before you hit publish — none of it is glamorous, but skipping it is the most common reason good posts never get found.
The on-page SEO checklist
Run through every item below before any post goes live:
- Title tag — under ~60 characters, with the primary keyword near the front.
- Meta description — a compelling 140–160 character summary that includes the keyword.
- H1 and H2 structure — one H1 (the title), with H2s breaking the body into logical, scannable sections.
- Keyword in the intro — your target phrase in the first paragraph, written naturally.
- Internal links — two or three links to related posts or product pages on your own site.
- Outbound authority link — at least one link to a credible, relevant external source.
- Image alt text — descriptive alt attributes on every image, not keyword stuffing.
- Readability — short paragraphs, plain language, and headings that let readers skim.
Why these basics still matter
Search engines use these signals to understand what a page is about and who it's for. The title and meta description shape your click-through rate; headings and internal links map your topical structure; alt text and readability serve both accessibility and crawlers. Miss them and even excellent writing underperforms.
Make the checklist automatic
The trick is applying this on-page SEO checklist to every single post, not just the ones you remember. That's where a system beats willpower.
WordCraft bakes these fundamentals into every draft — keyword-aware titles, proper heading structure, internal and outbound links, and clean meta descriptions — so the checklist is handled before the post reaches you. See it on a post of your own; the first one is free.
